Sustainable holidays at Ballat Smithy Cottage
At Ballat Smithy Cottage we are privileged to be surrounded by some of the most beautiful scenery in the World. We aim to provide you with the most comfortable accommodation possible while striving to minimise our impact on the environment.
So by ensuring that Ballat Smithy Cottage is as environmentally-friendly as possible, our guests can be sure that they are not having a negative impact on the beautiful surroundings of Loch Lomond and the Trossachs.
The building is over two hundred years old. When the cottage was created, it was important to us that we included as much sustainability as possible while maintaining the unique character of this place. To that end, we installed secondary glazing to preserve the traditional windows, and tried to make sure we used natural materials wherever we could. For example, the walls are insulated with sheep wool from Cumbria. This ensures the cottage remains warm in winter, increasing its energy efficiency. It also keeps the cottage nice and cool in the summer, making it a comfortable stay any time of the year.
Wildlife is encouraged into the garden, and our guests love to see the wide variety of birds visiting the feeders. Also, we have recently updated our electric heating, and we can now offer guests exclusive complimentary use of our Electric Vehicle charger.

Reducing our impact and taking positive steps to improve biodiversity will ensure the survival of this special place for future generations.
We are doing everything we can to help our guests stay as carbon neutral and environmentally friendly as possible. We want to make sure their environmental footprint is small, whilst continuing to offer a memorable and comfortable self-catering stay here near Loch Lomond.”

‘Just returned home from a lovely week staying in Ballat Smithy Cottage. Very good value for money. We found the cottage very comfortable and were surprised at all the little extras: welcome food pack, wifi, DVDs and books, charger adapter plug, vanity unit in the main bedroom, washing machine and detergent.
We found the beds very comfortable, the bathroom very clean and instant hot water whenever we wanted it.
The cottage is situated in an ideal position for exploring Loch Lomond and the Trossachs and also in easy reach for Stirling, Glasgow and the Highlands. We enjoyed exploring the little villages nearby and recommend Drymen for eating out.’
